Instructions for changing the Canon 5D and 1D series screens revised 02/07.
Warning: do not touch or handle the screens with your hands.

Locate a clean environment with a table or desk top / be sure the camera is powered off.

It is also better to find a location where air is not circulating, or switch off the heating or air conditioning system and fan during installation.

Detach the lens and position the camera facing upwards toward you.

Included with the new screen is a tweezers-type tool to use to trip the screen latch release located near the 12:00 o'clock position of the lens mount.

To trip the latch, gently press the latch release upwards (at about 45 degrees) with the tool to release. The screen frame holder and screen will drop down toward the mirror.

We highly recommend practice removing and re-inserting the existing screen before proceeding to change / replace the new screen as follows:

Un-package the new screen and use the tool to grasp and  remove the existing screen by the large screen tab. Use the enclosed packaging to store the existing screen.

Use the tool to grasp the new screen by the tab and insert the new screen into the frame holder.

Minor adjustments may be necessary to properly seat the screen.

Note: all screens are precision made to extremely tight tolerances however the tolerances of the frame holders may vary and require slight shifting of the screen to center perfectly. Be careful not to scratch the screen with the tool or frame holder.

Gently lift the screen frame holder upwards with the tool, to latch it in place with the tool. Press the screen holder gently back in the upward locking position by pressing either side of the latch. You will feel / hear a click when the screen frame holder latches in place.

Do not  force the latch to close. If the latch does not close gently re-seat the screen and press the screen holder upwards to close gently again. Check to see that the screen is fitting evenly.

Re-attach your lens and calibrate the adjustable viewfinder diopter to the clearest position to your individual vision preference which might be a different position with the new screen.

Metering compensations have been reported not to be needed to date with most normal lens, however some longer or slower lens have been found to require metering compensation. Metering compensation with the use of other optional factory screens is also necessary. We will advise reports of other findings or changes with future tests at: http://www.brightscreen.com/changescreen.html Enjoy your new screen.
